Josie Van Gent Edell

Josie Van Gent Edell (1921 - 2007) was active/lived in South Carolina.  Josie Edell is known for Portrait, South Carolina landscape painting (houses).

Josie Van Gent Edell (1921 - 2006)

She was born in Amsterdam and spent her youth in France, Spain and South Africa.  She was a Cum Laude graduate of Kunstoefening, Amheim and was awarded a five-year scholarship by Queen Wilhelmina.  She completed her BA and MA degrees at the Academy of The Hague and received a second, five-year scholarship that enabled her to travel and work with other accomplished artists throughout Europe.

During the German occupation of Holland in World War II, Josie served the Red Cross, assisting transportation of patients from beach hospitals to the safety of inland facilities.  When the war ended, Josie Edell enjoyed a successful career in advertising.
